About the Role

We’re looking for a hands-on, proactive Controller to lead our financial operations and manage the day-to-day execution of our finance team. You’ll work directly with ownership and department heads to build reliable reporting systems, manage cash flow, and drive margin improvements. You’ll oversee and support a small but capable team, ensuring all core accounting functions run smoothly, from AP/AR to month-end close, while raising the bar for accuracy, discipline, and responsiveness.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with our fractional CFO to align strategic finance initiatives and reporting standards
• Own financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow planning
• Implement margin controls and financial safeguards in quoting and procurement
• Lead ERP optimization for financial reporting and inventory accuracy
• Create live dashboards and department-level P&Ls
• Build and manage the company budget
• Manage and develop a lean finance team, ensuring no single point of failure
• Serve as a business partner to department heads, helping them understand and improve financial performance
• Ensure compliance with Canadian GAAP, tax filings, and audit readiness

What You Bring

‍

Qualifications & Experience:

• 5+ years as a Controller or Finance Manager in a mid-size business
• Experience in a product-based or service-oriented business
• Multi-entity and cross-border accounting experience a strong asset
• Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP and tax compliance
• Experience with ERP systems

‍

Technical Skills:

• Advanced financial modeling
• Experience with BI dashboards (Power BI, Google Data Studio, etc.)
• Strong working capital and margin management experience

Soft Skills & Leadership:

• Clear, practical communicator, able to explain financials to non-financial staff
• Player-coach mindset: willing to roll up sleeves while building systems
• Proactive and organized: driven to improve processes, not just maintain them
• Comfortable in fast-paced, entrepreneurial settings
• Aligned with core values like ownership, continuous improvement, and transparency
